PLOT SUMMARY

In this fictional novel, Daniel Nayeri writes the story about Khosrou originally from Iran,
and now a refugee known as Daniel in the states, talks of his two very different lives he
has lived in the past 11 years. Daniel speaks of his past wealthy life in Iran and his school
mates in Oklahoma find it hard to believe his tales since he can barely afford lunch at school.
This novel will remind you about kindness and empathy.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS

In this heartbreaking novel, Khosrou becomes a refugee fleeing from his home in Iran. Khosrou speaks of his life back in Iran to other students in his new school in the U.S. but no one believes him. This compelling story of bravery and loyalty to Jesus as their savior has cost the family everything. But you can't put the cost on religious freedom. Honestly, I found this novel difficult to read due to all the hardships their family endured. However, Nayeri does an excellent job of describing what Khosrou's dysfunctional life was like and what his brave, faithful mom tried to instill in their lives, christianity.

"A modern masterpiece - as epic as the "Iliad" and "Shahnameh," and as heartwarming as "Charlotte's Web." It's for the kids at the lunch table; the heroes of tomorrow, just looking to survive the battle of adolescence."
